Temple Thursday

Happy Thursday, everyone.  48 hours to Notre Dame football.  I know it's a long wait, but on the bright side, tonight college football returns.  No more pale substitutions, like playing football while bowling:

I have no idea how many takes it took to get this shot.
Football is back this Thursday night.  Sadly, not at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia, where Virginia Tech has mastered the art of the Thursday night game:

But from Florida, to the Carolinas, and out west to Utah, college football is back.  Even in Hawaii, college football returns tonight.  Where Southern Cal will take on Hawaii while leaving its top two running backs at home in California for undisclosed reasons and attempting to use a rotating quarterback system:

No, Mr. Kiffin, I think it's an excellent idea.

But we still have to wait two days to see Irish football.  Which brings us to the current player of the day:

Tom Clements, who quarterbacked Notre Dame to a National Championship over Alabama on New Year's Eve, 1973:

This was the first of several times that Bear Bryant tried to beat Notre Dame and failed.

But Bear Bryant is not the issue here.  Instead, it's Temple.  And like I said yesterday, it will be difficult for Temple fans to get here.  The trip is far.  And expensive.  They'll need to get some significant financial resources to get here.

Which leads to one of the few areas Temple truly excels.  Fortunately for Temple students, it's a growth industry.  Even more fortunately, of all the schools that play D-1 football, Temple is the very best at it.

The bad news is it's not exactly something to be proud of.  And in the gray area between legal and illegal.  You see, Temple ranks #3 on the list of students advertising themselves to wealthy men on SeekingArrangement.com.  Don't worry, the link is to a HuffingtonPost article on the issue, and not SeekingArrangment.com itself.  I am not trying to get any of you readers fired.

But if you run the math, 270 students on SeekingAffluent/14,000 female students = 2% of the female students on JUST ONE particular . . . unsavory website.

And with that, we end Temple Thursday.  See you all here tomorrow.  But first, please enjoy this topical Backer song of the day:

  1. I have to agree... I've always been impressed with the VT atmosphere. I can't wait for an ACC trip down to Blacksburg for the Irish. I will do everything I can to make that game...

Also, good info on USC. I knew about the QBs but had no idea they were down 2 RBs. Wouldn't that be quite the upset?!

Another fine blog today, by the way.
