Southern Cal Retrospective

10.  Fewer Southern Cal fans than usual came out to South Bend this year.  Unsurprising, as they began the season outside the top 20.  They promptly justified this ranking early in the season with their abominable performance against Hawaii and a loss to Washington State.

9.  I had the chance to meet numerous members of the Southern Cal football manager staff.  Wonderful guys.  Apparently Coach Kiffin nicknamed one of them 'Broomdick'.  Speaking of which, with Ed Orgeron losing on Saturday night, Lane Kiffin remains the only coach in the history of Southern Cal to go undefeated in South Bend.

8.  George Atkinson III politely suggests you talk to the hand:

7.  Good to see lots of running at the goal line.  Though starting the play from six yards back from the line of scrimmage on 4th and half a yard may have been unwise.

6.  Mr. Tuitt really just wanted to reach out and touch somebody. Was that so wrong?

moments like this contributed to Southern Cal's ninety-five yards of penalties.  That's almost a football field.

5.  The two teams combined for 163 yards on their first two drives.  The teams later combined for a total of 110 yards.  IN THE ENTIRE SECOND HALF.

4.  I wish I could put a perfect image here as a metaphor for the second half.  Sadly, I was unable to find a picture of two men in full suits of armor hitting each other with bricks for an hour.

3.  There are over 400,000 NCAA student-athletes, and Andrew Hendrix is certainly going pro in something other than sports.  Hopefully Tommy Rees comes back for Air Force.  Or else, we may see Malik Zaire, aka Malik Democratic Republic of Congo.

2. If Nelson Agholor is still pissing blood this morning, it's KeiVarae Russell's fault:

1.  It was twelve years ago, 2001, that Notre Dame beat Southern Cal in Notre Dame Stadium.

God, it was worth the wait.
